About Wildlife Journeys Africa

Discover Africa, authentically.

Go beyond the ordinary and see Africa through vibrant, local experiences.

At Wildlife Journeys Africa, we don’t just book trips; we curate the very experiences we live for. Based in the heart of Rwanda, our company was founded by a tight-knit group of travel enthusiasts who have spent years traversing the rugged terrains and hidden gems of East Africa.

We aren't just "agents" behind a screen — we are explorers who have slept under the same stars, trekked the same misty slopes, and shared meals in the same villages we recommend to you. Our philosophy is simple: We only arrange tours that we would be thrilled to do ourselves. If a journey doesn’t leave us breathless or inspired, it doesn’t make it into your itinerary.

When you travel with us, you aren't just a visitor; you are a partner in progress. A portion of every journey goes directly toward supporting local cooperatives and community projects. Whether it’s empowering women through traditional craft-making or supporting schools near the national parks, your adventure helps ensure that the wildlife and the people who protect them thrive for generations to come.

The most amazing trip! Peter was the most amazing guide. He is extremely knowledgeable and was very accommodating to my friend and I. We didn’t have to worry about a thing-he took care of everything. Peter has a great sense of humor and tolerated our millions of questions with grace. He is a forever friend. We loved Rwanda, its people, and of course the chimps and gorillas. I will never forget my experience trekking up the mountain and being a foot away from the gorillas. It was surreal. The porters were life savers-they help a lot. Hire them! Akegera National Park, the Golden Monkey’s, the kings palace, the market in Kigali, and the genocide memorial are all must see. I can’t say enough good things about Peter and my Rwandan adventure.

The Best Trip Ever The trip of a lifetime! My partner and I booked a week with this company and it's hard to describe how amazing it was. Peter is the ultimate guide and was the major reason why our trip was such a success. Peter is a wealth of information about Rwanda as well as about neighboring countries. He's kind, funny, patient and just so willing to go above and beyond. His knowledge about the animals and birds was astounding and if he didn't know the answer to one of my millions of questions, he found it for me! Every where we went people were so happy to see him. We could not have asked for anyone better. We spent time in Akagera NP and also did the gorilla trek. We originally thought the gorilla trek was the whole reason for our trip, but we ended up loving every part of the trip, from staying in an eco-lodge with hippos outside the door, to touring the Genocide Museum and learning about the remarkable forgiveness that Rwandans have shown to each other. Just writing this, I am emotional thinking about our time there. My partner and I love to travel all over the world, and this was by far one of- if not the best and most impactful trip we've ever had. Makes it hard to think of where to go next as nothing will likely beat it. Do not delay on booking with this company and with Peter. He is simply the best.

Best family trip with the best tour guide My mother has been wanting to visit Rwanda for 40+ years, especially to see the gorillas, and my parents, partner, and I could not have been more pleased with our tour with Peter via Wildlife Journeys Africa. If you are looking for a tour guide that is deeply connected with people in all the communities you visit, you must book your tour with Peter. It was clear that restaurant staff, hotel owners, and guides we met during our trip respected Peter, enjoyed his company, and were eager to welcome and support his tour groups. He was able to tailor a 10 day tour around the country that included so many highlights like Volcanoes National Park & Akagera National Park as well as unplanned visits to the King's Palace Museum, booking of massages, and last minute shopping quests. I felt like I could completely disconnect and immerse myself in experiencing Rwanda because Peter made sure all the logistics were attended to.There is something for everyone in Rwanda-- history, culture, nature, and wildlife-- and Peter is so friendly, knowledable, kind, and attentive to everyone's needs that I felt comfortable throughout and truly in awe of all Rwanda has to offer.

Incredible Experience around Rwanda There are so many travel companies to choose from to go on your first safari or gorilla trek, and I am SO GLAD we decided to go with Peter. We spent 10 FULL days discovering Rwanda and all it has to offer. We were a party of 4. My partner and her parents. Peter provided a warm experience right from the moment he picked us up from the airport in Kigali. We stayed at Onomo Hotel that has a wonderful view of the city, and great accommodation. One of the days we visited the genocide museum, which was heartbreaking and very informative. After Kigali, we traveled to Akagera Park for a safari where we saw giraffes, elephants, hippos, zebras, lions. And oh my goodness! The best part was the behind the scenes tour where we saw how the park is managed, and met the patrol dogs. It was incredible. We then drove about 6 hours to Volcanoes National Park for our gorilla trekking. What a experience I'll never forget. Truly life changing, and we got so close to them! There was a trek that accessible for all ages - and we hired porters that assisted my partner's parents. Also make sure to not miss visiting the Ellen DeGeneres and Diane Fossey exhibit while you're there. It's truly worth it and shares quite an immersive and high quality exhibit. After, we traveled to Lake Kivu. BEAUTIFUL. It's near the border of Congo, you can actually see the hills with lights across the lake into Congo. It's near Nyungwe national Park where we went chimpanzee trekking. Wow wow wow. We had a very special experience there too. Overall, Peter was such a delight. We'd have long days of driving and Peter was so charming and made sure we were having a great experience. He was very engaging the entire time ensured we were all included. He is such a kind individual, and made sure we were comfortable. There were lots of snacks and drinks in the car. He is incredibly knowledgeable on all things Rwanda and has a great relationship with everybody (all the your guides in the parks). He knows all the best kept secrets and where to go!This is definitely something not to miss. Thanks Peter 💛

Unforgettable experience. Our family safari in South Africa was absolutely incredible, and Wildlife Journeys Africa made sure that every detail was perfect. We spent several days exploring Kruger National Park, where our kids were absolutely thrilled to see lions, elephants, and giraffes up close. Our guide was fantastic with the kids, making the experience both educational and fun for everyone. The lodges were family-friendly and offered all the comforts we needed, including activities to keep the kids entertained between game drives. One of the highlights was a bush breakfast where we all had the chance to spot wildlife while enjoying a delicious meal in the open air. Wildlife Journeys Africa went above and beyond to ensure that every member of our family had an unforgettable experience. We’re already talking about where to go next with them!

This was truly an epic journey. Tanzania and Rwanda were the perfect combination for our safari adventure, and Wildlife Journeys Africa made sure everything was flawless. We started with a thrilling safari in the Serengeti, where the vast plains and incredible wildlife left us in awe. The Great Migration was in full swing, and our guide knew exactly where to take us for the best views. From Tanzania, we flew to Rwanda for the gorilla trek in Volcanoes National Park. The experience of trekking through the misty mountains to come face-to-face with a family of gorillas was something we’ll never forget. The accommodations in both countries were luxurious yet blended seamlessly with their natural surroundings, offering comfort and immersion in the stunning landscapes. Wildlife Journeys Africa coordinated every detail flawlessly, making the transitions between destinations smooth and stress-free. This was truly an epic journey that combined the best of Africa’s wildlife and natural beauty.

This was truly a life-changing experience. The gorilla trek in Rwanda was something I’ll never forget, and Wildlife Journeys Africa made sure everything was perfect. Trekking through the dense forests of Volcanoes National Park to come face-to-face with a family of mountain gorillas was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Our guide’s expertise and respect for these magnificent creatures made the encounter even more special. The accommodations were luxurious and perfectly situated, offering stunning views of the surrounding mountains. After the trek, we had the opportunity to relax and soak in the beauty of Rwanda, with a visit to a local community that added a meaningful cultural dimension to our trip.
